What's provided by the HPC service

As part of the YCRC’s mission to support High Performance Computing at Yale, the Center will provide High Performance Computing services, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • All Data Center facilities, including racking, powering, cooling, and networking.
  • Provision and installation of the Operating System
  • Provision of a base software stack including open source applications and libraries.
  • Provision of a suite of software based upon the university’s current licensing agreements.
  • Provision of best efforts to install and configure commercial and public-domain packages and libraries beyond the base software stack as requested. Best effort does not include modifications to the base software stack for packages or libraries to operate. Primary responsibility for support of specific application software will remain with the requestor or the vendor.
  • Configuration of job submission queues and creation of user accounts as necessary.
  • Provision of system administration, maintenance of hardware, and maintenance of the supported software stack.
  • Support services will be provided during regular business hours, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, unless otherwise requested. In the absence of special arrangements, best efforts will be made to support off-hours requests.
  • Provide a minimum of 28 days’ advance notification of scheduled maintenance necessary to maintain the currency of the cluster, except where a shorter period is required due to critical security-related exposures being identified.
  • Evaluate the list of current authorized users of the clusters at least once per calendar year.
