Hopper cluster compute available without charges
As of July 1, 2026, charges for use of CPU and GPU computing on Yale’s Hopper cluster have been eliminated, making it easier for researchers to access secure, high-performance computing resources. Storage fees beyond baseline allocations remain in place. Hopper is Yale’s only on-premises computing environment externally assessed for compliance with NIST 800-171, which NIH now requires for research using certain Controlled Access Data, including data from dbGaP, ABCD, the NCI Genomic Data Commons, the NIH Brain Development Cohorts (NBDC) Data Sharing Platform, the NIMH Repository and Genomic Resources, and UK Biobank. The cluster has also been assessed as HIPAA-compliant. In the coming months, YCRC will add Priority Tier partitions to Hopper, similar to those on the Bouchet cluster, offering a paid, opt-in fast lane for computations.
